**DO NOT** send SUBSCRIBE, UNSUBSCRIBE or other administrative requests to ALLMUSIC. Either follow instructions below or send email to MIKE@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU for help.
SUBSCRIBE ALLMUSIC Your full nameor
Send email to MIKE@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU giving your full name and saying that you want to subscribe to ALLMUSIC.
UNSUBSCRIBE ALLMUSICor
Send email to MIKE@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU saying that you want to unsubscribe from ALLMUSIC.
Q: "I *did* unsubscribe but this mail keeps coming. Why?"
A: Sometimes mail is en route to you through the network for as long as several days. You'll continue to get the mail even though you are no longer subscribed. In time it will stop. If you have doubts that your UNSUB worked, send mail to MIKE@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU and I'll help you.
Q: "I posted mail to the list but I never saw it appear on the list. What happened?"
A: Most likely you need to do this- send a one-line email to LISTSERV@AUVM.AMERICAN.EDU saying:
SET ALLMUSIC REPROSetting the REPRO option means you will get copies of your own mail.
To choose DIGEST format send a one-line email to LISTSERV@AUVM.AMERICAN.EDU that says:
SET ALLMUSIC DIGESTIf you later decide to switch back to regular email, send this message to LISTSERV@AUVM.AMERICAN.EDU:
SET ALLMUSIC MAIL
A: If you want to discuss a specific topic, send a note to the list and get things started. You must participate in ALLMUSIC to get what you want.
A: Try SUBSCRIBING again. You may have been deleted from the list due to problems. If your mail was bouncing you probably did not get the curtosy note telling you that you were unsubscribed.
Don't worry, sending the SUBSCRIBE command will never subscribe you twice. If you are already subscribed then your subscription name will be replaced.
A: They *ALL* are. It just depends on who you ask. If you think someone is the greatest, or the worst, be sure to tell us *why*.
A: It's an inside joke on ALLMUSIC. Once upon a time a lone headbanger posted a one-line note to the list stating (in all-caps as you see here): METAL RULES! DEATH TO ALL THAT APPOSE!!!!! That one note has generated more discussion, speculation, and humor than just about anything that ever appeared on ALLMUSIC. In fact, the phrase is our motto! If you think you know what it means, be sure to let us know.
A: Yes and No.
A: FTP to cs.uwp.edu , look in directory /PUB/MUSIC for a wealth of lyrics (in lyrics subdirectory) and other music info. More than you have time to read.
Q: "But, but,... what is this FTP stuff?"
A: If you have access to the internet, then you can use FTP. Check with your local compu-gurus for details.
A: This has been done a lot. Be prepared for groans and flames.
BTW - By The Way
OMC - Obligatory Music Content. Often added to a blatantly non-musical post.
IMHO - In My Humble (or, holier-than-thou) Opinion
[SISLxxA - Simpering Inside Silly Little xx Aside -- once uttered by a listmember in exasperation at the old-timers (porchfarts). This listmember has now become a porchfart, illustrating the revenge of time. -- Rev. Bob]
A: If you send such a message to the list, it's taken seriously and you are instantly unsubscribed. But this is a glaring admission that you are a net.newbee. The proper technique for leaving ALLMUSIC is to send a message or one-line note to LISTSERV@AUVM that says: UNSUB ALLMUSIC.
Q: "I *did* unsubscribe but this mail keeps coming. Why?"
A: Sometimes mail is en route to you through the network for as long as several days. You'll continue to get the mail even though you are no longer subscribed. In time it will stop. If you have doubts that your UNSUB worked, send mail to MIKE@WVNVM and I'll help you.
A: People on ALLMUSIC occasionally contribute a bunch of music to be combined into a compilation tape. Watch the list for your chance to participate.
A: There is a site where you can download GIF images of other ALLMUSIC subscribers using anonymous FTP. If you wish, you can add your photo to the archive. The FTP address is karolchik.wvn.wvnet.edu. Watch the list for occasional info about how to participate.
